Yuppy Puppy Salon
North Liberty, IA
North Liberty Brownie Troop 620 visited the Yuppy Puppy pet salon
as part of earning the Animals Try-It badge. Brownie Troop 620 troop
has 14 members. Owner Donna Hostetler was a preschool teacher
before her dog grooming career. so taking charge of this field trip
came quite naturally to her! She showed the girls the salon
equipment and grooming table, (that's Sara, our "little" Vizsla pup up
there in the photo). she finished clipping the little white dog for the
girls to see, then she gave Sara a bath and blow-dried her, cleaned
her ears, clipped her nails ... and that was supposed to be it. Nooo.
not Donna! She had the troop go out to her garage so we could see
her big Vizslas' tricks! Then she had treats all ready for the girls AND
their doggies! She really went all out, but was she done then? No.
she still wasn't done! She took us out to the new building where they
have obedience training and showed how we use different collars to
train the dogs, demonstrating with Sara, who is one of Kathy's
(obedience trainer) students. Donna really went the extra mile and a
half for us. We appreciate it so much, we plan to make her some
little bandanas she gives her four¬ legged clients.

NORTH LIBERTY-Just off of Mehaffey Bridge
Road in a wooded area is the home of Donna
Hostetler and her busi¬ness,
Yuppy Puppy Salon.
In 2003 Donna and her husband, Gary, came to
North Liberty thanks in part to the University of
Iowa. Two of the couple's three boys attended the
university, and al¬though all had moved away, the
fond memo¬ries of the area brought them here after
20 years of family farming.
Living in a small town all their lives, North Liberty
just seemed right to them.

Donna has been in the pet grooming business for 35 years.
Having a small salon back on the farm near Lock¬ridge helped
her-prepare for a full time salon in North Liberty.

Yuppy Puppy occupies a large room attached to the Hostetler
home, with a view of the timber behind the house. The salon
has large wash basins, a kennel, and a grooming area. Also
available are grooming products, toys, collars, leashes, and pet
treats.

In three short years the clientele has increased enough that a
second salon was built next to the home this year. Two new
groomers have been added that use the same techniques and
styles as Donna, so customers can be as¬sured of getting high
quality, one on one service. Donna says this individual touch is
what makes her business
such a success. "These dogs are our client's babies, so
we spend a lot of time with each dog, and never rush." It gives
us a good feeling when people leave the salon happy and
content with our service."
A day of pampering at Yuppy Puppy Salon includes a hair
cut, nail trim, ears and footpads cleaned, sanitary area trimmed,
bath with Plum Silky shampoo, Re-moisturizer, two leave in
conditioners for skin and coat, baby cologne,

bandanas or bows. After all this our client's pet can relax on a
fluffy bed and chew on a toy until it is time to go home.
Additional treatments that are available are flea dips,
de-shedding, nail grinding, teeth and anal cleaning. Personalized
service is our main goal, the comfort of the pets and the
satisfaction of our clients comes first with us.
Self-service dog wash is also available. For $20 a client can bring
their dog in and use Yuppy Puppy's shampoo, towels, and hair
dryer. Clean up is the client's responsibility. It's been a very
popular service with the large breed owners.
Yuppy Puppy Salon is located at
3710 Crippen Ct. NE off

Legion. "Come see us for all your pet's grooming needs, we will
be happy to add you to our family of clients, Donna says.

Yuppy Puppy is growing up. The dog
grooming salon owned by Donna
Hostetler, located at her home just off
Mehaffey Bridge Road, is already
booked for the rest of the year. With a
waiting list of more than 50 names,
Hostetler feels it is time to expand. She
is building another customized salon
next to her home business, which will
be run by Kathy Evans. Evans, who
received her training from a
professional groomer for dog show
contestants, brings six years of
qualified experience to Yuppy Puppy.
Evans uses identical techniques and
styles used by Donna, so customers
can be assured of the same high-
quality, one-on-one service they are
used to getting. Hostetler says it’s the
individual touch that has brought such
success to her grooming business.
"These dogs are their babies, so I
spend a lot of time with each dog. I
never rush," Donna said, emphasizing
the personal attention she gives her
four-footed clients. "It gives me a good
feeling when people walk out my door
happy and content with what they gel"
With the addition of Evans, Hostetler is
able to spread more canine happiness
at
Yuppy Puppy located at 3710
Crippen Court NE. Call Hostetler or
